Coming to term with fatherhood

14 Mar

We visited the midwife again today.  We are at 36 weeks, five days.  That means on Friday, we will officially have brought our baby to term (37 weeks).  Now, we just need to get Samrick to come out.  Sam is hoping the baby arrives during Spring Break.  She'll get to start her maternity leave early and I'll get some sleep before going back to class.

Samrick’s Basket

Bassinet

My nesting instinct continues to gain steam.  Last night, I assembled the baby's bassinet.  We got it a few weeks ago at our baby shower, but when we got home we discovered the basket had been damaged during shipping.  I filled out a form on the manufacturer's website and a week later a new basket arrived.  Very good customer service.

Yesterday, we also interviewed pediatricians.  I think we are going to go with the doctor who didn't seem to prejudge us as "difficult parents" when we told him Sam was giving birth at The Birth Center.  Sam is only giving birth there because she hates hospitals.  The doctor seemed to be hostile to a Birth Center birth because parents who have their children there are more likely to reject immunization and other mainstream medical practices.  While I understand his concern about parents who do have those parenting preferences, I did not find it professional for him to prejudge us based on no information other than where we choose to have our baby.

Rolling down the aisle

26 Feb

Sam will probably not like that I am posting a funny story about her, but then she didn't have to be funny did she?

This morning Samantha was taking the Geo in to have the snow tires removed (I think it is a bit early for that, but who listens to me anyway). She was taking two of the regular tires out to the car when she decided to toss them out the door. Since the door is hard to open, she tossed them perpendicular to the ground so she didn't have to open the door as wide.

[If you don't see where this is going, pick up something round and toss it out in front of you holding it perpendicular to the floor. Now run after it]

It was quite amusing to see the tires rolling down the slight incline between our patio and the parking lot. It was more amusing to see Sam running after them. It would have been the most amusing thing of all if the second tire had reached hit a neighbors car, but she stopped it just in time. I'm so proud to be marrying this woman with the amazing power to stop rolling tires.

UPDATE: Sam informed me that the second tire actually did hit the neighbor's car, which is how she caught up to it. I'll still marry her though.

Ripper is RIP

Samantha just had a hard won victory over an "indifferent foe" in the form of Evil Giles in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds video game she got last August. She doesn't play much, which is why it took a lot of attempts. Nevertheless, she persevered and we here at The Hedgehog Times are proud to be marrying her since we know she has opposable thumbs (now with push button blister action!).

p.s. We is of course the royal we. While we are proud sponsors of Same-Sex Marriages®, we aren't into the polygamy.
